Practice

16"x24"

In 6th grade I got a 'C' in art class - why give letter grades to children is beyond me - but that letter stuck with me for a long time. Its easy to confuse inexperience with incompetence. I was convinced from age 12-25 that I could not ART. Art was impossible for me because I was unable to draw a realistic hand, the thing I had failed to accomplish in middle school and I was convinced at the time that realism is what art is supposed to be. Rediscovering my creativity has been the most exciting and fortunate driving force in my life. I dont know if I will ever be able to draw a photo realistic hand, but id rather NOT because I choose not to rather than NOT because I am unable. I practice drawing every day. I recently drew a 3/10 hand that looked pretty Tim Burtonesque, but its a hell of a lot better than outlining my own hand like a turkey. Practice Practice Practice.
